Despite initial challenges owing to the departure of several group members, which increased our workload, collaborative efforts finally resulted in a successful project outcome. We developed a clear strategy as a pair to efficiently distribute the task responsibilities between us, laying a solid basis for the project's succeeding stages. Despite our different subject areas, we were nonetheless able to come up with a topic for our blogs. The quality of the group work was improved by the use of Generative AI (GenAI), which was crucial in assisting us in finding common themes relevant to each of our distinct areas.
While developing this blog we understood the importance of attribution and copyrighting original material. We included a copyright marker at the bottom page of the blog in order to protect our ideas from being used without attribution, as well as adding badges to our original photos in order to clearly state how we would like our material to be shared (if at all).
Additionally, we made sure to correctly attribute any material which was not made by us, by referring to the license for each material:
The creation of this blog allowed us to develop as potential teachers. We understood the value and potential in combining subjects for a multidisciplinary approach, by finding a common thematic area and allowing for different learning activities to be adapted from it. For students, having multiple subject areas develop one thematic area increases engagement and ultimately results in the students not only understanding the concept better, but also has a potential to improve their performance in both subject areas.
Although the blog is still in its early stages, it has great potential to be used as a teaching resource. Students are currently subjected to recurrent classes on proper media usage, which has resulted in boredom as they are constantly exposed to the same topic being delivered and taught in the same traditional way. This example demonstrates the difficulty of keeping students engaged while offering necessary media teaching. However, the prime purpose of this educational blog is to seek to engage students by introducing this topic in a more interactive and digital setting, departing from traditional teaching. Should it still be used as an educational tool, the blog would certainly need to be expanded further to include more blog on themes such as one focusing on online presence.
